Oxygen‐Free Production—From Vision to Application

As oxygen negatively affects most production processes in the metalworking industry, a truly oxygen-free environment appears attractive terms of resulting material and component properties. This overview summarizes research conducted within Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1368. The objectives this CRC are twofold. First, fundamental understanding mechanisms that govern interaction between metal surface is established. Second, it researched how can be exploited to improve current even develop completely new ones. Herein, data obtained first funding period, which already demonstrate significant effects realized such as thermal spraying, cold rolling, compound casting, laser brazing, milling or hot stamping name just few examples, presented. In addition, key aspects initial deoxidation workpieces, their transport under conditions prevent reoxidation, tools needed establish control an process given, ramifications with respect actual applications discussed.
